What is the difference between all the Botox brands? Short answer: some kick-in a little faster and have slightly different ingredients. Long answer: read more below!
Botox vs. Dysport
These two have some of the most research surrounding them because Botox has been approved for cosmetic use since 2002, and Dysport since 2009. Dysport typically takes 2.5-3 units per 1 Botox unit. Some studies show that Dysport lasts longer at the 2.5 units per 1 Botox unit (although you will find most injectors use 3 Dysport: 1 Botox which could be even more advantageous for clients!).
Lasts longer than Botox
Clients had their foreheads frozen with Dysport for 72 days vs. Botox 56 days until movement started to return. Results for crow’s feet were also similar with Dysport outlasting Botox. Getting better results for longer could mean you space your appointments further apart. Dysport also has a higher amount of active neurotoxin which leads to longer-lasting results.
Faster onset of action
This means that patients who receive Dysport injections will begin to see results sooner than those who receive Botox injections. This faster onset of action with Dysport can be especially beneficial for patients who have a special event coming up or who want to see results as soon as possible.
Spreads more easily than Botox
This means that fewer injections are needed to treat a larger area. This also prevents a lot of the need for “touch-ups” which can contribute to Tox-resistance.
Botox vs. Jeuveau
These two are most similar in terms of chemical make-up. In one study, men treated in their frown lines had more improvement with Jeuveau than Botox. Men treated with Jeuveau had their results last longer than those treated with Botox, which is especially important as “Brotox” becomes more popular. A study on mice showed the same amount of muscle atrophy with either toxin. Because Jeuveau is newer, the manufacturing process makes it 98% or more pure. Botox can be used for cosmetic or medical purposes due to extra research being performed by the manufacturer. Many clients find Jeuveau to kick-in faster than Botox. Touch-ups at the 2 week mark are often better with Jeuveau because it starts working faster.
Botox vs. Xeomin
Xeomin is known as the “naked Botox” because it does not contain any of the additive proteins that Botox does. This makes people less likely to create an immune response to Xeomin and create a resistance to it, which is beneficial for those starting wrinkle relaxers at a younger age. When studied head-to-head with Botox, Xeomin performed very similarly. Additionally, It is the only wrinkle relaxer that does not need to be refrigerated, so some people report less pain with injection because Xeomin is not cold.
